REGOLITH (2024) Concrete, mixed sand, resin, charcoal, iron, crushed quartz, assorted gravel, basalt, slate, 150 x 70 x 4 cm
‘Regolith’ explores the materiality and textures of extraterrestrial surfaces, drawing inspiration from the granular, fragmentary nature of regolith found on asteroids and planetary bodies. Blurring the line between geological artifact and speculative tool, ’Regolith’ reflects on humanity's aspirations for space exploration and resource harvesting, grounding these ambitions in tactile, material investigations.
MATERIAL LANDSCAPE (2023) Cement, stone, resin, sand, metal, glass, soil, carbon, 60 x 36 x 3 cm
’Material Landscape’ and ‘Mineral Deposit’ emerged from a project combining drawing and sculpture, inspired by research into resources extractable from meteoroids and asteroids. The design incorporates shapes derived from components of devices used to analyse comet and asteroid samples. Sand and cement were combined to replicate the stony surfaces of these celestial bodies, with mixed materials symbolising the valuable resources integral to space mining: metals for construction and industrial repair, carbon for fuel, and phosphorus-rich soil to support vegetation growth.
