ORBITAL OBJECTS
(2022) Installation, 130 x 120 x 35 cm
Expansion into outer space will inevitably depend on harnessing natural and harvestable materials. These sculptures envision a speculative future of resource extraction beyond Earth, exploring the intersection of industry and the organic. Their forms capture the tension of this meeting point, incorporating textures and ribbing that evoke mining processes. Constructed from hybrid materials, each piece integrates elements representative of resources critical for extraterrestrial mining, embodying the possibilities of a new frontier in material exploration.

BUILDING SUPPLY red sand, metal and resin, 43 x 23 x 19 cm
’Building Supply’ features a red sand and resin mix with embedded metal filings, mimicking stone and symbolising metals like iron and platinum, crucial for construction and resource replenishment.

FUEL SHORTAGE grey sand, resin and carbon, 40 x 24 x 20 cm
‘’Fuel Shortage’ incorporates bituminous carbon and grey sand, highlighting carbon’s significance as a primary fuel source.

FOOD SOURCE White sand, soil, metal and resin, 40 x 23 x 20 cm
’Food Source’ combines soil and white sand with metal filings, referencing phosphorus in meteor dirt samples, essential for cultivating vegetation in space, with ripple-like rings evoking open-cast mining.
