EROSION SAMPLES (iii) (2024) Sand, cement, copper and aluminium oxidised with miracle-gro fertilizer, copper sulphate and liver of sulfate, 60 x 60 x 3 cm
The ’Erosion Samples’ sculptures investigate the effects of prolonged exposure to extreme environmental conditions on material surfaces, drawing parallels between terrestrial and extraterrestrial erosion processes. Inspired by experiments with oxidized metals and designs influenced by NASA’s MISSE mission, the sculptures emulate the degradation and transformation of materials over time. Presented as core-like samples, the works evoke scientific artifacts, blending speculative futures with tangible materiality to explore humanity's evolving relationship with resource extraction and environmental change.
FUEL CELL (2023) Sand and concrete, 43 x 39 cm
This artwork abstracts the structural components of an Apollo Fuel Cell, reimagining how such mechanisms might be sustainably constructed using natural materials harvested off-world. Through this speculative lens, the piece invites reflection on future innovations in space exploration and the ecological potential of resource autonomy beyond Earth.
GALACTIC PROPULSION (2023) Concrete, 59 x 57cm, Edition of 3
A reimagining of a NASA Fuel Cell from Leicester Space Centre, this piece draws inspiration from a 70’s sci-fi aesthetic. It explores how past visions of the future shape technical processes and innovation, merging retro-futurist design with speculative advancements in propulsion technology.
