ROTARY PROTOTYPE i (2024) Sand, resin, wood, acrylic, 125 x 70 x 45 cm
The ’Rotary Prototype’  sculptures envision adaptations for mining equipment designed to function in microgravity environments, such as asteroids. Informed by over 100 research documents on asteroid mining technologies, the designs incorporate deployable anchoring systems, harpoons, and retractable spikes for secure surface adhesion on irregular terrains. Modular drill components are crafted for replaceability, upgradability, and compact storage, addressing the challenges of remote operations. Displayed on plinths resembling excavated rock strata, the sculptures merge speculative design with geological context, reflecting the complexities of extraterrestrial resource extraction.
